4 out of 5 stars For doglovers only!   February 13, 2008
I would say this is one of the best 30ish romance books I've read. The characters "sit", the professional topics (animal behaviour, llama keeping, golf, tv show) were looked into, the story is exciting. The only two drawbacks are the slow start of the book, and the too professional parts. I myself am very interested in dogs ethology but if you're not, you may be bored!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Writing   October 2, 2006

This book kept me hooked until the end. Isabel doesn't let you have all the info at first so it make it easier to guess whats going to happen. Brilliant.

3 out of 5 stars not like her previous books :(   July 5, 2006

To be honest I did not like this book much. Mostly because when i bought it I thought it woulbe be funny as The Trials of Tiffany Trott and The Makings of Minty Malone however this book is not funny at all. So if you are looking for some humorous chicklit i would not suggest you to buy this one.

Things i did not like:

* Lots of italics - the characters keep talking in italics -emphasising certain words for no reason whatsover -after a while it annoyed me a bit

* A plot device which i hated - we keep reading about how Miranda tries to admit to David her biggest secret which also involves him and, whenever she is about to tell him the truth, she is keeps getting interrupted.(this occurs repeatedly)
Daisy her friend also has a secret to share at one point of the story (which even a moron would have already guessed)and whenever she gathers up the courage to tell it to Miranda something happens to interrupt them - a phone call, some one coming at the door, etc. it would be okay if this happened just a couple of times but this occurs A LOT of times and after a while frankly i got bored. It really got annoying after a while -these constant interruptions supposedly to bring up the interest in the story and what is going to happen. To me it only kept decreasing my interest because after all we know what the big secrets are and we are just waiting for them to tell it so there was no real motivation for me to keep turning the pages.

*Miranda's constant thoughts (in italics) while she speaks to other characters also get annoying after a while. She is also full of guilt and we constantly bombarded by her guilty feelings at almost every sentence.

Basically the premise of this story is that Miranda has done a terrible thing in her past and she wants a way to appease her conscience so she tries to meet this person she hurt so many years ago and who does not know of her involvment in the accident that occured to him. She is full of guilt and boy we keep reading about it. she talks about it almost non stop and the rest of the plot is just secondary. Even when she is speaking to David her (guilty) thoughts keep intruding and disturbing the flow of the dialogue. She is always thinking of David's reaction when she'd tell him but then keeps postponing it -sigh-

ITs not a bad book the story is fine and its good for light reading but if you were looking for a humourous read like the previous two books by Wolff this one is not for you. Miranda's responces to the pets problems also disapointed me -some where intresting but others were obviously meant to make us laugh (i did not)

4 out of 5 stars loved this!   August 7, 2005

not keen on animals, so i found some of the llama bits rather dull, but this was a well-written very funny book. i chuckled out loud several times.

i liked the fact that Miranda had done something bad in her past. And so had Alexander, and so had Jimmy/James.

easy to write this kind of book off as 'just chick-lit' as 99% of critics will do, but there were some thoughtful bits about forgiveness and guilt in this book. Not easy to write about so humorously.

The plot ripped along too, no slow hard-to-get-in-to bits.

Keep it up Isabel!
