I got this book free in a goody bag & it has been sat on my shelf since early summer! After finishing another book recently and having nothing else to read, I decided to give this a go. I was a bit reluctant as I thoughtas it was being given away, it wouldnt be up to much! How wrong I was!!! I truly love this book. Its amusing, heart warming & I can not put it down!! I am now about to add her other books to my christmas wish list on whatidreallylikeis.com Dont delay, buy this book now!!
One you won't forget! February 19, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I always forget how much I love Isobel Wolff's writing until I read the next novel. She's one of those writers who can address tough subjects, but always with a touch of levity and with sensitivity. You certainly don't feel depressed after finishing Wolff's novels, but you also feel as if you have read something of substance, "real" writing. Forget Me Not is no exception. Wolff sets up the story just perfectly, so that you can believe that reliable, sensible Anna acts unreliable and not sensible for once - and the end result is her lovely daughter Milly. Anna struggles to change careers and carry on without much help from Milly's dad, all the while balancing weird tensions and issues within her own family. Wolff brings each character to life - you can understand why Anna loved Xan, but you also find yourself wanting to slap him soundly! Wolff brings everyone around at the end - it was one of those books I was truly sorry to finish.
Really really good... January 13, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The tale of garden designer Anna and her daughter Milly, 'Forget me not' is IW's latest offering and a very entertaining read. Left to bring up her daughter alone when Xan, the dashing one night stand, bogs off to work abroad at the merest whiff of a pregnancy, this tracks Anna's life as she gets it together. A scandalous secret found between the pages of a book spice things up a little and there's a couple of interesting sub-plots thrown in regarding a Spanish nanny and a new best friend, but essentially this is light, easy reading - a tad predictable but not in any way wishy washy. A lovely feel good read...
Temple of Delight November 13, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Another lovely novel from Isabel Wolff. What I like about her writing is that she is never afraid to tackle difficult emotions, and she does so with such warmth, humour and intelligence that it makes for a really satisfying read. Her books are also very informative. After reading this, I feel I am a gardener, even though I have only ever managed to grow a few geraniums in a terracotta pot!
Forget Me Not March 29, 2007 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Forget Me Not is an emotional rollercoaster of a read. From the very first chapter, I was enveloped by how Anna, a garden designer to be, deals with the sudden death of her mother. This central theme was elegantly transposed alongside the different kinds of grief that a failed relationship leaves behind.
Then came a number of mysteries to be unravelled in Anna's life - not least regarding the paternity of her friend Jenny's baby, and the old photos Anna finds of her mother. Alongside these pages turning storylines, and plenty of wit and humor. I've picked quite a few tricks which I might try on my garden.
