Product Description Bonsai is a Japanese word meaning "tree in pot". The art of bonsai has flourished in Japan for centuries but has now spread over the entire glode. Bonsai have become highly valued possessions after just a few years. All tree seeds are much slower to germinate than flower and plant seeds. It will take from 3 to 12 weeks for shoots to appear depending on the variety of tree you choose. This pack will produce between 3 to 8 saplings of each tree type suitable for training into miniature trees. CONTENTS: This kit contains two tubs of tree seeds pre-planted in a specially formulated growing medium, two dwarf terracotta pots, two propagation covers, plant markers and labels, a bag of growing medium and a full instructions leaflet.

Firstly, if you're into the idea of growing your own Bonsai tree, please remember one thing: It's a tree. Trees take many, many years to grow into maturity. This kit is no different, it is not magic, it specifically says in the manual that it will be between 2-3 years before your tree is 4-6 inches tall and requires moving to the supplied terracotta pots (which I will probably have lost by that time)
The instructions are not particulary well laid out, and actually contradict eachother between the manual inside the box, and the quick instructions on the back of the box itself, so a little internet research was called for to determine the correct course of action.
The bottom line: if you have a lot of patience, and knowledge in the area of Bonsai gardening, this may be for you. For someone looking to grow something in a few months, stay well clear.
Excellent!!! February 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found this kit an excellent way of starting a collection on bonsai from the beginning. All necessary bits are included and my bonsai started to grow within weeks. Be advised that some species need a period in the fridge to start there natural cycle but if your patient, the wait is truly worth it. Great for beginners to bonsai or to the expert who is considering growing from seed. Also it makes a great gift to anyone close. All instructions are included to take you though the stages.
Recommend to anyone interested in bonsai
