Great fun for kids! July 26, 2004 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
My kids (aged 5 and 8) have loved this software. The 8 year old has spent hours making the cartoon stories, whereas the 5 year old has had great fun with the painting and collage sections. I have also enjoyed exploring it with them. I have had no problems at all with the printing. Well worth the money!
This won't work on XP and a networked printer April 24, 2004 33 out of 39 found this review helpful
This is a sorry example of a poorly designed program hastily 'ported' toXP without too much testing (or thinking). Apart from not having the ability to set any option on display or fileset-up, this program has huge troubles printing (it will not allow you toselect a printer, but will default to the first one, even though it is notthe default) and it crashes when trying to print to a networkedprinter. Having contacted their helpdesk via e-mail, this is what they come backwith (after "only" 17 days to mull over the existential implications of myquestions, I suppose - maybe, an extra couple of days and they might evengot the spelling right): "I'm sorry to here you have this problem. We have tested the software onour computer, and although we do experience the freezing, we are stillable to print. Therefore, and unfortunately, we are unable to assist youwith this problem." Which is rather amusing, as in effect they are saying: "we know ourprogram is worthless, but it's your problem, mate". It also says, theyconsider ok a program that "freezes" when performing an essential functionsuch as printing. I think it is worth bearing in mind when purchasing this, or any othertitle, from this particular publisher.

Endless fun! March 6, 2004 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 5 year old daughter....at first I was dismayed thinking it seemed much too difficult and advanced for her age as it did take some time to figure out how to use the basic features. However, when I was ready to take it back she sat glued to it creating all sorts of wonderful pictures for longer than I thought healthy! The secret with this is to not be too overwhelmed by all the tools, but to be patient and work slowly through it..there is so much in this I believe she will be using this to an ever advanced level for many years to come, meaning I get to read the Sunday paper in peace!
I can print! January 5, 2004 39 out of 42 found this review helpful
After purchasing a computer last year with Windows XP I was given Art Attack Make It! for Windows 95/98. I used the Programme Compatability option to run the programme but could not print off any items even when updating all my drivers etc. Very frustrating! However, I decided to purchase the double pack for Windows XP. Before loading it, I made sure that the Programme Compatablity was no longer set to Windows 98 (i.e. set to option "do not apply a programme compatablity") and then deleted the old programme. I restarted my computer and then loaded the new disk. Everything seems to work fine. I am pleased to say that both programmes will print off on my Canon S330 printer, which the old version of Make It! did not. I did have an initial problem that Make It! kept selecting another printer option that was not connected to my computer nor set as the default printer! I solved this by deleting the old printer option. My nine year old daughter is enjoying the programme very much, the only annoying thing I find is that it is not always obvious what the symbols mean (e.g. a little brown door for quit) and I would have preferred words in addition to symbols.
